So I got a so called "netbook" a couple days ago, a machine that is supposed to be lowly in all things CPU, but able to browse the net. I'm posting from it right now, its a good test machine for the engine.
I discovered yesterday's version ran like molasses in this netbook, so I spent the day trying to optimize stuff, and in the process discovered a few nasty bugs and squashed them.
Among the changes:
* Text is no longer driven by a timer, now it simply runs whenever the CPU can afford it without stressing. It may appear slower for some and faster for others, depending on your rig.
* Scrolling is no longer handled by an elegant but demanding one-liner (I had something with elevating differences to a power, discarding fractions, etc) Now its real simple: there's a 600 by 200 section in the middle of the screen where scrolling just doesn't happen :)
The overall result -should- be a slightly smoother experience, but post feedback by all means!

Running much better for me,
Running much better for me, there's no overscroll or freezing at all any more,
It does seem to scroll a bit slowly, maybe that could be remidied by having two boxes, a slow scroll one towards the centre and a faster moving one at the edges?
Or maybe it's just me being impatient.
Awright!
Great news to hear!
Next version out tomorrow, I'll pump up the speed a little bit. If you notice any other performance issues, or anything else that seems buggy, please do tell! :)
I plan to live forever. So far, so good!
